Fried Mac and Cheese
Ingredients:
- elbow macaroni - 1/2 pound
- butter - 1 T
- flour - 1 T
- milk, warmed - 1 cup plus 1 T
- cheddar cheese - 8 ounces
- Smoked Gouda - 8 ounces
- salt and pepper - to desired taste
- egg - 1
- bread crumbs - 1 1/2 cups
- Italian seasoning - 1 t
Instructions:
Cook macaroni per package directions. Drain and rinse with cold water; set aside.
In a pan over medium heat, melt butter, whisk in flour, cook for 2 minutes. Add warm milk, whisk to get rid of lumps, cook until sauce thickens. Remove from heat, add cheese, stir until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Pour cheese over macaroni, stir. Pour into a shallow pan, cover, place in refrigerator for 2 hours.
Use a large cookie scoop to form macaroni into balls. Place on cookie sheet lined with wax paper, place in the freezer overnight.
In a shallow bowl make a wash by mixing 1 egg and 1 T milk together. In another bowl mix seasoning and bread crumbs together. Dip macaroni balls into egg wash and then cover with seasoning mixture. Heat oil to 350 degrees. Fry macaroni balls until golden brown and cooked through, about 5 minutes. Serve with marinara sauce.
