Onion Bites
Ingredients:
- mayonnaise - 3 T
- sour cream - 3 T
- ketchup - 2 t
- Worcestershire sauce - 1/2 t
- horseradish - 1 T
- paprika - 1/2 t
- cayenne pepper - 1/4 t
- black pepper - 1/4 t
- sweet onion - 1 large
- flour - 2 c
- cayenne pepper - 1 t
- paprika - 1 T
- thyme - 1/2 t
- oregano - 1/2 t
- ground cumin - 1 t
- black pepper - 1/2 t
- eggs - 2
- milk - 1 c
Instructions:
Prepare dip -- In a bowl mix together mayonnaise, sour cream, ketchup, Worcestershire, horseradish, 1/2 t paprika, 1/4 tcayenne and 1/4 t black pepper; set aside.
Cut onion in half and make slices down the onion to make wedges. In a bowl, toss together flour and seasonings. In a second bowl, whisk together eggs, milk and 1/2 c water. Separate onion slices and place in a large Ziploc bag. Add about 3/4 c flour mixture; shake well to coat. With a fork, gently lift out about 6 onion wedges, place them into the egg mixture. Using a fork, remove them from egg mixture and into flour mixture in the bowl, toss to coat. (Dip in flour, egg, flour.) Place on a wire rack while coating all the onions. Gently tap rack to remove excess flour before frying. Heat deep fryer to 360 - 375 degrees. Fry for 6 minutes, until brown and crispy. DO NOT overcrowd in the fryer. Remove from oil, drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with seasoning salt. Serve hot with dipping sauce
