2 boxes pound cake mix plus ingredients listed on package
2 c whipping cream
1 c dark brown sugar, packed
1/4 c butter
1 t vanilla
14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
3/4 c whole almonds, coarsely chopped, toasted
1/3 c canned vanilla frosting
Prepare cake mix as directed on box. Spread batter into a greased 9×13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack for 30 minutes.
In saucepan, combine whipping cream, brown sugar and butter bring to a boil over medium high heat. Reduce heat to medium; simmer uncovered, stirring frequently about 15 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Cool slightly.
With the handle of a wooden spoon poke several holes into top of warm cake. Slowly pour condensed milk over cake. Let stand 5 minutes for milk to be absorbed into cake. Slowly drizzle brown sugar mixture over cake, pressing slightly into holes. Sprinkle with almonds over top. Cool completely. Microwave frosting; drizzle over cake.
