1 box (18.5 Ounce) German Chocolate Cake Mix
1 c finely chopped pecans
1/3 c plus 1/2 c evaporated milk
1/2 c butter, melted
60 caramels
1/3 c semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 c powdered sugar
In a bowl, mix together cake mix, pecans, 1/3 c evaporated milk and melted butter. Mixture will be very thick.
Press half the mixture into a greased 9×9 inch square baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from oven and set aside.
In the top of a double boiler melt and combine caramels and 1/2 c evaporated milk, pour over brownie base. Sprinkle chocolate chips over caramel mixture.
Place remaining dough on waxed paper, using your hands to press it into a large square a little smaller than the pan. Carefully set it on top of the caramel and chocolate chips.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven, cool to room temperature, cover and place in refrigerator for several hours. Before serving sift powdered sugar over the the brownies.
