Sweet and Salty Bars
Ingredients:
- crushed pretzels - 3 cups
- sugar - 1/3 cup
- unsalted butter, melted - 1 1/2 cups
- whipping cream - 1/2 cup
- packed brown sugar - 1/4 cup
- caramel baking bits - 11 ounce bag
- salted cocktail peanuts - 2 cups
- semi sweet chocolate chips - 1 cup
- milk chocolate chips - 1/2 cup
- peanut butter flavored chips - 1/2 cup
- toffee bits - 1 cup
Instructions:
Prepare crust -- in a bowl, combine pretzels, sugar and 1 cup melted butter. Press mixture into bottom of a 13 x 9 inch pan, lined with heavy duty foil coated with non stick spray. (Have foil extend over the edges of the pan for easy removal of the bars.)
In a bowl, combine all the chips and toffee bits; set aside.
In a saucepan, combine 1/2 cup butter, cream and brown sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved. Stir in caramel bits, cook and stir until caramel is melted and mixture is smooth. Add peanuts and stir..
Quickly spread caramel mixture evenly over pretzel crust. Sprinkle chocolate chip mixture over caramel layer.
Bake in preheated 325 degree oven for 25 minutes or until edges are bubbly and light brown. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Using the edges of the foil, lift the bars out of the pan. Cut into bars.
Store in a airtight container, at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze.
