Baked French Toast with Berries
Ingredients:
- Kings Hawaiian Sweet Round Bread - 1 package (8 cups torn bread)
- blueberries - 1/2 cup
- chopped strawberries - 1/2 cup
- eggs - 4
- milk - 1 3/4 cups
- sugar - 1/2 cup
- vanilla extract - 2 tsp
- cinnamon - 1 1/2 tsp
- Crumb topping --
- flour - 1/4 cup
- brown sugar - 1/4 cup
- cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- butter, cut into pieces - 4 T
Instructions:
Tear bread into chunks, place half of the bread evenly in a greased 13 x 9 inch baking dish. Add half of the blueberries and strawberries. Top with remaining bread and berries.
In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon. Pour evenly over bread, make sure all bread pieces are wet. Cover casserole, place in refrigerator for 3 hours or overnight. Just before baking sprinkle crumb topping evenly over top.
Prepare crumb topping -- in a bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar and cinnamon. Cut in butter until it all comes together and mixture is crumbly.
Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30 - 40 minutes. For a softer, moist texture bake for 30 minutes. For a firmer texture bake for 40 minutes. If desired sprinkle powdered sugar over the top; serve with syrup. Serve immediately.
