Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce
Ingredients:
- cubed white bread, such as French, Broiche, Challah, etc - 4 c
- raisins - 1/2 c
- milk - 2 c
- butter - 1/4 c
- sugar - 1/2 c
- eggs, slightly beaten - 2
- vanilla - 1 T
- ground nutmeg - 1/2 t
- butter - 1/2 c
- sugar - 1/2 c
- firmly packed brown sugar - 1/2 c
- heavy whipping cream - 1/2 c
- vanilla - 1 T
Instructions:
In a bowl combine bread and raisins. In a saucepan combine milk and 1/4 cup butter, cook over medium heat until butter is melted. Pour milk mixture over bread; let stand 10 minutes.
Stir in sugar, eggs, vanilla and nutmeg, pour into greased 1 1/2-quart casserole. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 40 - 50 minutes or until set in center. Prepare sauce --
In a saucepan combine butter, sugar, brown sugar and cream. Cook over medium heat, stir occasionally, until mixture thickens and comes to a full boil; stir in vanilla.
Pour warm sauce over warm pudding and serve. Store in the refrigerator. Warm leftovers in the microwave.
