Apple Pie Bites
Ingredients:
- vegetable oil - for frying
- refrigerated pie crust - 1 package
- apple pie filling - 1 can
- pure maple syrup - 1 T
- cinnamon - 1 t
- butter - 3 T
- sugar - 1/2 cup
- cinnamon - 1/4 cup
Instructions:
In a sauce pan, warm pie filling, maple syrup and 1 t cinnamon. Remove from heat, set aside. Roll out pie crust to thin it out. Cut 3 1/4 inch in diameter circles, cut circles in half. Combine crust leftovers and re roll to cut more circles. Spoon pie filling into the middle of each half circle; pinch edges to seal.
Heat oil to 350 - 375 degrees, carefully place bites in the oil, fry about 30 seconds per side. Place on a paper towel covered plate; cool.
Prepare coating -- in a Ziploc bag, combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup cinnamon. Melt butter, with a pastry brush, coat each side of the bites with butter. Place into the bag and seal. Gently shake the bag until bites are coated with cinnamon and sugar. Remove from bag; serve with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream.
