Pour 1/2 cup boiling water over 2 T shortening, 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 tsp salt.
Add 1/2 cup evaporated milk and let stand until warm.
Dissolve 1/2 package yeast in 1/4 cup warm water and add to milk mixture with 1 beaten egg.
Stir in 2 cups flour. Beat and add enough flour to make a soft dough.
Place in greased bowl and grease top of dough. Cover with waxed paper and a cloth. Chill until ready to use.
Roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Do not let rise before frying.
Cut into squares and fry in deep fat. Brown on one side, turn and brown on the other side.
Drain on paper towel and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
