Swiss Steak with Gravy
Ingredients:
- flour - 1/4 cup
- salt - 1/2 t
- pepper - 1/4 t
- round steak, tenderized, cut into serving pieces - 2 pounds
- vegetable oil - 2 T
- onion, sliced thin - 1 medium
- water - 2 cups
- Worcestershire sauce - 2 T
- flour - 1/4 cup
- salt - 1/4 t
- pepper - 1/8 t
- beef broth or water - 1 1/4 cups
Instructions:
Combine 1/4 cup flour, 1/2 t salt and1/4 t pepper, dredge meat in flour mixture. Heat oil in a dutch oven and brown meat on both sides. Place onions between layers of meat. Add 2 cups water and Worcestershire. Cover, bake in a preheated 325 degree oven for 2 - 2 1/2 hours or until tender.
Place meat on serving platter, cover to keep warm. In a bowl combine 1/4 cup flour, 1/4 t salt, 1/8 t pepper and broth; stir into the pan juices. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir for 2 minutes. Serve with noodles or mashed potatoes.
