Deep Fried Mozzarella Sandwiches
Ingredients:
- sliced mozzarella - 6 ounces
- white sandwich bread - 8 slices
- Kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper - to desired taste
- flour - 1/2 cup
- eggs, lightly beaten - 2
- plain bread crumbs - 1 cup
- canola oil - for frying
Instructions:
Add oil to a depth of 2 inches in a 6 quart pan; heat over medium-high heat to 350 degrees.
Place mozzarella slices on 4 slices of bread; season with salt and pepper, cover with remaining slices to make 4 sandwiches. Trim crusts; cut sandwiches in half diagonally. Place flour, eggs and bread crumbs in three separate bowls. Dredge sandwiches in flour, dip sandwiches in eggs, coat sandwiches in bread crumbs. Fry until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Serve immediately.
If desired serve with marinara sauce for dipping or a bowl of tomato soup.
