1 lb package dried northern beans
1 lb ham (ham bone, hocks, shank, diced ham, etc)
2 t onion powder
6 c water or vegetable broth
salt and pepper to taste
1 carrots (if desired)
1 celery stalk, diced (if desired)
Rinse and sort beans. Put all ingredients in a crock pot adding water last. If carrots and celery are used more liquid may need to be added. Cover and cook on low 8 hours. Remove ham bone and pull meat off the bone, return meat to crock pot and mix. Serve hot with your favorite corn bread.
