Scalloped Potatoes
Ingredients:
- Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled, sliced thin - 6 medium
- butter - 3 T
- flour - 3 T
- milk - 1 1/2 cups
- shredded Gruyere cheese - 1 1/2 - 2 cups
- garlic, minced - 2 cloves
- thyme - 1 sprig
- salt and pepper - to desired taste
Instructions:
Melt butter in a 9 inch oven proof skillet over medium heat. Reduce heat to low, add flour and whisk for 30 seconds. Add garlic, thyme, salt and pepper, whisk in milk until smooth. Remove from heat and pour milk mixture into a bowl.
Place sliced potatoes in skillet in an overlapping spiral pattern. Season each layer with salt and pepper, sprinkle cheese between each layer of potatoes. Pour milk mixture over potatoes, cover top layer of potatoes with remaining cheese.
Cover with foil, bake in a preheated 400 degree for 1 hour. Remove foil, bake for 5 - 10 minutes until top is golden. Cool 5 - 10 minutes and serve.
